Privacy Policy — BCG at Edinburgh Fringe

Last updated: 18 July 2026

The BCG at Edinburgh Fringe app is built to help you browse shows, venues and reviews at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. It is a deliberately private app: there are no accounts, no sign-in, and it does not collect any information that identifies you personally.

The short version. No account. No name, email or password. No advertising ID. No precise location tracking. Your saved shows stay on your device. We record anonymous, aggregate usage so we can improve the app — nothing that identifies you.

Who we are

The app is operated by Fantata (Chris Read), a software developer based in Norwich, United Kingdom, and published as the companion app for the British Comedy Guide's Edinburgh Fringe coverage. If you have any questions about this policy or your data, email hello@fantata.com.

What the app stores on your device

Some information stays only on your phone or tablet and is never sent to us:

You can remove all of this at any time by clearing the app's data or uninstalling the app.

Anonymous usage analytics

To understand how the app is used and where to improve it, we collect a small amount of anonymous, aggregate usage data through our own self-hosted analytics system. We do not use Google Analytics, Firebase, or any third-party analytics SDK. The data we record is:

These events are not tied to any account, name, email address, or precise location, and we do not use them to build a profile of you or to identify you.

Information handled when the app fetches content

When the app loads festival listings, reviews or images from our servers, standard technical information — such as your device's IP address — is processed transiently to deliver the response, in the same way any website or app request works. We do not use this to identify or profile individuals.

Advertising

The app may show a promotional banner — for example, for a Fringe show. These promotions are served directly by us; there is no third-party advertising network, SDK, or advertiser tracking pixel. When a banner is shown or tapped, we record an anonymous impression or click count so we can gauge interest — this is not tied to your identity. The app does not use your device advertising identifier (Apple's IDFA or Android's Advertising ID), and it does not track you across other apps or websites.

Links to other services

The app links out to third-party services — for example ticket sellers, map and directions apps, review sites, and britishcomedy.co.uk. Once you follow one of those links, that service's own privacy policy applies to anything you do there. We have no control over, and take no responsibility for, those services.

Children

The app is a general-audience guide to Fringe comedy (which can include content intended for adults). It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information from children.

Your rights

Because the app does not collect information that identifies you, we usually cannot connect any stored data to a specific person, and there is no account to access or delete. You can remove all on-device data yourself at any time by clearing the app's data or uninstalling it. If you are in the UK or EU, you have rights under the UK GDPR / GDPR (including access, correction and erasure); to exercise them, or to ask anything about your privacy, contact hello@fantata.com.

Changes to this policy

If we change how the app handles data, we will update this page and revise the "last updated" date above. Significant changes will be reflected here before they take effect.
